The
greatest summer camp for children ages 6 to 14.
This is what summer is all about, get
away from it all and do something
outrageous, something you will talk
about for the rest of your life! We spend the cooler mornings teaching the children all about golf and in the afternoons the young pirates set course for the beautiful Flint River. Captain Jos Bekkers, owner of the golf course and builder of the
pirate ships takes pride in teaching the
children to use their imagination and
broaden their horizons. The kids learn all about boating and sailing, navigating with
charts and a compass and they learn
about safety on the water. The
Captain teaches the children how to build their own dinghy boats
from scratch, just the way he builds his
own Pirate Ships. The young sailors will
actually float their own hand built
dinghies down the Flint River rapids
towards down town Albany.
After learning all their Pirate skills, the
Pirate teams have a real battle at sea,
complete with a real black powder cannon
and water balloon sling shots. Hundreds
of water filled cannonballs are fired
back and forth and in the end, the
toughest pirates walk away with a chest
full of real treasure! The week
is filled with lots of great games and
activities. A closed race course
is set up for golf cart races, where
each child receives personal training to
safely drive a golf cart around the
track, racing against the clock.
The pool area is transformed into Port
Royal, Pirate
headquarters, with an obstacle course
and a zip line from the coco-hut
straight into the pool! On Friday evening we play night golf with glow in the dark golf balls.
Many parents turn out to enjoy a
delicious dinner on the veranda,
overlooking the Pirate activities. Later on we sing songs around the campfire and make smores
and the bravest of pirates spend the night at
our camp site. Everyone is
invited for the awards breakfast on
Saturday morning, where the
winners of the various contests and
competitions receive their awards. River Pointe Pirate Camp has grown
to be the summer highlight for many
young children and has gained national
recognition with the press. Our
first ship was featured on HGTV and a
great story on our Pirate Camp is slated
for the June '08 issue of Southern
Living Magazine! For 2009, we plan to
build another pirate ship to ad even
more excitement to our fleet! Do
